Design That Restores: Transforming Spaces for First Care Women’s Health
At Wellhouse & Co., our mission is Design that Restores. For us, part of fulfilling this mission is taking on one project a year for causes that are close to our hearts. Earlier this year, we had the privilege of partnering with First Care Women’s Health, an organization that has served thousands of women in our community with compassion, resources, and judgment-free support.
Their team works daily with women navigating unplanned pregnancies—offering pre-abortion consultations, ultrasounds, education on abortion procedures, discussions about alternatives, and referrals for OB-GYN care when needed. The heart behind their mission is to be present, supportive, and trustworthy during a vulnerable moment in someone’s life.
Kim’s mom has been volunteering with this organization for some time now, and she asked if we would be interested in helping to refresh their lobby and some of their counseling rooms. It was an easy yes from all of us!
Getting to Know the Heart Behind the Mission:
We started our by meeting with the passionate staff at First Care. Their enthusiasm was contagious! They truly love the work that they do and the women they serve. Their dedication made us even more excited to take on this project.
During our initial conversations, we asked about their goals for each space:
How did they want women to feel when they walked in?
What happens in each space?
What atmosphere would help clients feel comfortable opening up?
How can the design best support their brand, mission, and daily operations?
We took images and measurements for the lobby and three of the counseling rooms we would be working on, and started envisioning what each room could look like.
Designing Spaces That Bring Peace:
After meeting with some of First Care’s staff, we dove into creating the design plan. This was the part where our creativity combined with First Care’s purpose. Because design has such a powerful impact on how someone feels in a space, we knew every detail—from color palettes to textures to furniture—needed to send a message: You’re welcome here. You’re cared for. You’re valued.
First Care’s goal is for all their patients to feel at ease while visiting, so we selected calming blue tones, soft lighting, and layered textures and pieces that felt both modern and welcoming. Each room was intentionally designed to create an atmosphere of safety.
We had so much fun working on these spaces!
Bringing the Designs to Life:
After fundraising with our instagram community, (THANK YOU to everyone who contributed!) the real transformation began. We gathered an incredible group of volunteers (Kim’s awesome mom and her son, Pete) and professionals to help us with painting, wallpaper installation, furniture assembly, and all the finishing touches that brought each space to life.
This part of the process is always fun—watching ideas on paper become physical spaces. Piece by piece, each room came together, and suddenly these rooms were filled with warmth and intentionality.
A Project to Remember:
The staff at First Care were so excited about the transformation and their gratitude made this already worthwhile project even more special to us. Our work with them was one of our favorite projects of 2025. It inspired us and reminded us of the impact that design can have!
Our hope is that the women who walk into these rooms will instantly sense how valued they are—not only from the care they receive, but from the intention woven into every detail of the environment around them.
To the incredible First Care team: thank you for inviting us into your space and trusting us with something so meaningful.
To everyone who donated, volunteered, or cheered us on: we’re so thankful and this project wouldn’t have been possible without you!
